This small
pink, star-shaped flower blooms in
large terminal clusters throughout most of the year. The leaves are
lance-shaped and grow in pairs. They are found in moist areas and
wet woods.
Named for its milky sap,
the leaves are poisonous to all but a few animals. The monarch
butterfly eats only milkweed leaves thus making it toxic to most of
its predators.
