Florida Scrub
Jay
|
The Florida Scrub Jay (Aphelocoma
coerulescens) is one of the species of scrub jay native to
North America. It is the only species of bird endemic to the U.S.
state of Florida. Because of this, it is heavily sought by birders
who travel from across the country to observe this unique
species.
It is 11 inches long, and weighs 2.5 to 3 ounces. It has a strong
black bill, blue head and nape without a crest, a whitish forehead
and supercilium, blue bib and wings, grayish underparts, gray back,
long blue tail, black legs and feet.

Back to J.D.S.P. for a post CacheAppalooza day long 16 mile bike and hike. This was cache find #13 for the day. TFTC/SL
As an aside, this area could use some heavy CITO action. It seems the trash receptacle JDSP has provided, even though locked, is no match for the racoons. There was so much trash in the area. I stopped and picked some up, but we could have spent several hours at this one spot. We met some young men camping here and explained geocaching to them, perhaps they will do some cleaning up while they are back here..they were nice kids.
